<p style="text-align: justify;">Do you ever feel like you need to learn a new language, just to keep up these days? New abbreviations pop up on social media every second, so it’s normal to feel lost and confused.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A lot of young people use all sorts of acronyms in their texts and we sometimes have no idea what they are saying. How can I figure out all of these acronyms without hiring a translator?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">You are not alone. There are thousands of acronyms used for texting and chatting online, with new ones being created constantly. Some people say that they use acronyms to keep their texts short, others admit to using them as codes for privacy. Either way, it can be frustrating when you are trying to read a text and you have no idea what the sender is trying to say.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">So, we’re here to help you learn 13 acronyms floating around.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">1. BAE: Before Anyone Else. Instead of saying, “My love comes BAE,” one might say, “My BAE and I are staying in tonight.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">2. IRL: In Real Life. It’s usually used to refer to someone you speak to over the Internet but haven’t actually met.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “Your blog post was so interesting, I would love to meet you IRL.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">3. RT: Retweet. This one’s not so new but maybe confusing to non-twitter users. It means someone has essentially reposted your tweet for his or her followers to see.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “RT @iRechargeNG: Its 2016, life is easier… we offer you the easy kinda life.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">4. OAN: On Another Note. It’s mostly used in informal emails.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “Hi Rukkayat! School’s been great, but OAN we’re getting a goat!”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">5. IMO or IMHO: In My (Humble) Opinion. This is used usually in the comments section on websites.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “I liked this article, but IMO, there should have been more emphasis on how to get Recharged.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">6. DAE: Does Anyone Else. It’s used to frame a question.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “DAE sometimes dip their bread in tea?”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">7. YSK: You Should Know. Use this to provide context about something you’re posting.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “We had a Christmas lunch, and YSK we rarely get together as a Team.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">8. HMU: Hit Me Up. It’s like saying contact me, but with a little flair.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “You’re kinda smart…feel free to HMU.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">9. SMH: Shaking My Head. Said to express disappointment.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “You got another sharwama?! SMH.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">10. WDYMBT: What Do You Mean By That? This ones cool ‘cause its actually a full sentence.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “WDYMBT?”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">11. TBT: Throw Back Thursday. You probably know this one by now but it’s worth clearing up just in case — it’s when you Instagram a picture from a while ago on a Thursday.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “I’m gonna TBT this picture of myself holding a bottle of coke at a party.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">12. FBF: Flash Back Friday. Did you forget to throwback on Thursday? Have no fear; you have another shot on Friday.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “‘I know it’s not Thursday but can I insta this picture of me in kindergarten?’ ‘Sure, just do a #FBF instead!’”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">13. PMB: President Muhamadu Buhari. This is used to address Nigeria’s President Muhamadu Buhari</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ex. “PMB Vows to fight corruption.</p>
